TWO TONGUES REVIEW!!!111

There is rarely a “super group” in the music industry who gets my metaphorical musical sex drive going. But there was something that sparked my interest with Two Tongues. This little beaut’ is comprised of Chris Conley of New Jersey legends Saves The Day and LA pop-punk rock man Max Bemis of Say Anything (yes, aptly named after the awesome John Cusack movie) and two other dudes from Say Anything (Dave Soloway [Saves The Day] on bass and Coby Linder [Say Anything] on drums). So clearly, this has to be good, right?
Who can really deny how good Saves The Day’s (In this authors opinion) defining album Stay What You Are was for the power pop/pop punk/emo (Please don’t list Fall Out Boy as an emo band… Do yourself a service and Wiki [Since Wikipedia knows all] “Emo” and read up. It does not include black hair dye and black, tight clothing) genre that has been grossly over commercialized for the tween masses of the word. I mean who can really say that the chorus to “This Is Not An Exit” is bad? It brings back awesome memories of growing up and being in junior high, listening to pop-punk and all kinds of weird records (who else would make a mix tape for a girl with blink-182 and The Temptatoins on it?) while surrounded by kids who idolized Dave Matthews.
So naturally when I heard about Two Tongues and the awesome music connection that is Max Bemis and Chris Conley. The record opens with a rather awkward note, which left me extremely flat. Very quickly the record changes pace and goes up to my expectations on track two, ‘If I Could Make You Do Things’. The other highlights include ‘Tremors’ and the almost do-wop-y feeling ‘Don’t You Want To Come Home’.
Overall, this feels rather blasé. It seems like Say Anything without Parker Case (Anyone remember Jamisonparker?) and those other dudes…. And Chris Conley. I don’t know whether to find that comforting or not. But over all, the record isn’t horrible. In fact, it’s really not too bad. Although it feels more like two EP’s stuck together and a weird Saves The Day and Say Anything place holders while they record new records.

Total: 78/100.
